Voluntourism is a trend in tourism that combines vacationing and volunteering, and has been considered as an alternative to the traditional vacation of pure leisure. More and more travellers from all around the world wish to visit a destination and help protect endangered species, or participate in animal welfare initiatives. In this way, tourism becomes a responsible activity which respects destinations’ natural habitats and wild life.
In Greece, there are now a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available in almost every local destination.

Become a volunteer and take part in the daily treatment of sea turtles (: caretta caretta) on the island of Zakynthos, where the first National Marine Park of turtles was established in 1999.
